about

For his second OS Collective EP, Liar shifts gears into less poignant, more action-packed territory. A 3-track PSA about his personal philosophy, "Alpha" seeks to coax out every last drop of extroversion from the listener.

Opener "Tequila Mockingbird", a collaboration with Symbols sorcerer Druid Cloak, is a melting pot of synth-driven nostalgia, delicate choirs, and a brilliantly repuporsed Method Man reference, atop a minimalist, clackety post-trap foundation. Title track "Alpha" is a sultry and brooding blend of clap-happy future grime, exuberant helium rave and feral brass assault. "Honey Trap" is a crushing, metallic exercise in taking certain trap tropes to their logical extreme, punctuated by jazz cuts, dizzying arps and subsonic bellowing.

On the remix tip, Fuckowfski take "Tequila..." even farther into the future, plugging your ears with bass, while rolling percussion dictates your swagger, and trap and moombah-rave features are playfully and effortlessly juggled and expanded upon. Suave sultan of summer jamz ViLLΛGE once again proves he is unable to produce anything but instant classics with his anthemic, lush, organ-driven balearic house edit of "Alpha". The Reef's bubbling vision of "Honey Trap" is an upcoming "DLC" surprise we can't wait to unveil.
